Chairperson's Profile:
H.E. Kawac Makuei Mayar joined Anyanya I in 1963. He rose through the ranks and had become a major by the signing of the Addis Ababa Accord. He was among the original initiators of SPLA in 1983.

Functions:

The Southern Sudan War Veterans Commission performs the following functions and duties:

• To organize war veterans in Southern Sudan;
• Support the war veterans socially and economically;
• Build the capacity of war veterans; and
• Establish cooperative shops for the war veterans.

The Commission is comprised of the following administrative units:

• Directorate of Administration and Finance
• Directorate of Cultural Affairs
• Directorate of Social Welfare
• Directorate of Trade and Cooperatives
• Directorate of Public Relations
